Sialon Westofen Dosing Tubes

Sialon Westofen Dosing Tubes

Sialon Westofen Dosing Tubes

We manufacture Sialon dosing tubes for both Striko Westofen and Westomat dosing furnaces.

These dosing tubes offer a superior service life compared to Aluminium Titanate (AlTi) dosing tubes, which means considerably less downtime for manufacturing. With regards to Sialons, there is substitution of silicon by aluminum with corresponding atomic (melting temperature of aluminum) replacement of nitrogen by oxygen, to satisfy valency requirements. The resulting ‘solution’ has superior properties to the original pure solvent, syalon, silicon nitride or Si3N4. Silicon Nitride like Sialon ceramics have found extensive use in non-ferrous molten metal handling, particularly aluminum and its alloys, including metal feed tubes for aluminum die casting, burner and immersion heater tubes, injector and degassing for non-ferrous metals, thermocouple protection tubes, crucibles and ladles.

Sialon Westofen Dosing Tubes for Striko Westomat Furnaces – Superior Lifespan vs Aluminium Titanate, 2–3 Years Service, 12-Month Warranty.

Sialon Westofen Dosing Tubes are premium silicon nitride-based ceramic tubes specially manufactured for Striko Westofen and Westomat dosing furnaces in the molten non-ferrous industry (primarily aluminium at 660.3 °C melting point). They provide dramatically longer service life than standard Aluminium Titanate (AlTi) tubes, virtually eliminating clogging and reducing manufacturing downtime to a minimum.

Developed specifically to solve the short lifespan and frequent clogging problems of AlTi tubes in clean, closed Westomat systems, these low-thermal-conductivity Sialon tubes allow easy setup, operation and integration into any die casting or gravity casting line. The Westomat removes metal below the bath surface, preventing contamination – Sialon dosing tubes enhance this clean process with non-wetting surfaces, zero water absorption and outstanding corrosion/erosion resistance. Customers routinely report 2–3 years continuous service with minimal cleaning. Compatible with Sialon Immersion Heaters for furnace heating, ultrasonic degassing and hydrogen measurement devices.

Sialon’s unique composition (partial substitution of silicon by aluminium and nitrogen by oxygen) delivers superior properties over pure Si₃N₄: high strength, thermal shock resistance and durability in aggressive molten aluminium environments. Full technical specifications (ULTRA™ grades):

  • Bulk density: 3.1–3.3 g/cm³
  • Water absorption: 0 %
  • Flexural strength: 580–1,020 MPa
  • Vickers hardness: 12.7–15.0 GPa
  • Fracture toughness: 4–7 MPa·m¹/²
  • Young’s modulus: 270–300 GPa
  • Coefficient of linear thermal expansion (40–800 °C): 3.2–3.5 ×10⁻⁶/°C
  • Thermal conductivity (20 °C): 23–54 W/(m·K)
  • Heat shock resistance: 550–900 °C
  • Volume resistivity (20 °C): >10¹⁴ Ω·cm

Since 1986, these tubes have been the preferred choice for foundries seeking maximum reliability, lowest maintenance and best price/performance.
